My Must-Haves: Shop the Sephora Sale Like a Pro

beauty skincare Apr 14, 2021
It's that time of year, friends.

Whether you're stocking up on your can't-live-without products, or finally trying out something you've had your eye on for a while, there's nothing like a great discount to sweeten the deal.

Below, I'm listing out my picks for the Sephora Spring Sale. I'll highlight a few here and there, but trust me, these all have winning potential.

Skin - Foundation/Tinted Moisturizers

I am all about a natural finish and these beauties below all deliver. Remember, the key is light layers. Don't smear on foundation like you would sunblock. Go for 2-3 dots and blend, blend, blend until it looks like skin. You'll need more product in a tinted serum, like the ones linked here by Ilia or Fenty, but still, add layers instead of trying to get it all on in one go.

Tinted Serums - Most natural coverage. These are the new tinted moisturizers, if you're a fan of that barely there look. FENTY BEAUTY by Rihanna Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint // ...

My 3 Tips For Shopping Online Sales

mindset style Jan 12, 2021

Do you ever feel like the clothing sales are never-ending? Because I certainly feel like that and I am ALWAYS falling hard for a good sale.

Ann Taylor has been a favorite lately.

Yes, Ann Taylor. What, AT not at the top of the list of where you think a professional stylist shops? That's the beauty of shopping for fit and knowing your style personality -- I can shop almost anywhere and make it #fashun, and I can teach you to do the same.

Here are my tips for shopping a retailer full of basics that are sometimes short on style, and coming out on top:

  1. Figure out a plan before you shop

When you're looking through a site full of basics, it's way too easy to default into getting one more black cardigan (that you probably don't need) than pushing your style. For example, I'll decide to look for cozy sweaters with interesting details for Zoom (and life!), or comfortable pants that pull on but still look polished. Get specific!

  1. Ignore the prices

If you're anything...

Year in Review: The Pandemic Style Edition

I can hardly believe we're closing in on the end of 2020. I don't know about you, but this has been the fastest-slowest year ever. At times it felt like we were moving through molasses, and on the other hand, I'm pretty sure it was March, then July, then November.

How has your pandemic time warp been?

One thing I've been reflecting on is how my style and my thoughts about what I wear have shifted this year.

Let me take you on a little journey:

Stage 1: It's a Pandemic. Considering getting a "Loungewear 4ever " tattoo. Also, Introverts were made for pandemics. Just ask Majimbo.

Stage 2: Loungewear is making me sad. I like the comfort but not the low-key depression. But I'm still not putting on jeans and you can't make me.

Stage 3: Keep it comfy, but also cute. Festive Fridays were born: Put on a cute top and glam it up with makeup on Fridays.

Stage 4: The Housedress. Plus, more cute tops. And more makeup. (Doing my face, even a 5-minute face a few times a week...

3 Secrets from a Stylist to Present Your Best Self Online

Last month I wrote a blog piece for Teaching Channel with tips on how to present yourself online. Without further ado here she is:

3 Secrets from a Stylist to Present Your Best Self Online

Teaching online comes with lots of opportunities and challenges, most of which you’ve probably encountered this school year and are working through. But what about how you, yes, Educator You, actually show up online?

In addition to lesson planning, navigating the vagaries of Zoom, and learning how to provide an enriching educational experience in an online space, there’s also the matter of how you look and feel on camera.

So much of teaching is presentation, and teachers need tools to show up authentically and professionally online. Here are 3 key ways to present yourself online and master the virtual classroom spotlight.

  1. Lighting

I know, I know. Being a former K-16 educator turned personal stylist, you thought I’d go straight for the clothes. Don’t...

Girl, Everything is Already Political

Whew, what a week? Am I right?!

The emotions of the week finally caught up to me and I passed out hard on the couch before bedtime.

I don't know about you, but my emotions are mixed. I am 1000% overjoyed at the final result of this election, and having actual competent adults in the Office again, but the closeness of this race and the fact that the vast majority of white voters voted in 2020 exactly the way they did in 2016 is staggering.

And please don't get me started on the 55% of white women who voted for a white supremacist agenda. Please. There is work to do.

All that to say, if you are newer here, or if you've been hanging tough with me for a while, then you know that my identity is never divorced from my calling and my profession as a stylist and a confidence coach.

I believe that when any of us fully step into our power, we're able to do so because of the work we put in to recognize and appreciate...

Your Style Roadmap to 3 Key Fall Trends

jeans style trends Nov 15, 2020

Let's jump into these fall trends, shall we?

Move over skinnies, there are some new jeans on the block!

It took me yearrrrrs to get on board with skinny jeans. I was definitely Team #you'llnevertakeawaymytrousercutpants for a long time. But when high-waisted + skinny came out, I gave them a go.

I still stand by skinnies being super flattering on just about everybody type. High waist is key for most of us there.

But if you're looking for some variety since life might be feeling so monotonous right now, I hear you.

This cute little link from Target shows all the styles I'm talking about. Check it out here for a visual on my breakdown below.

We've got new straight-leg styles with a more modern cut through the hips and thighs  - great for just about everyone. If you're on the petite side, consider a platform slip-on sneaker or booties to give you some height back.

Itty bitty bootcuts as well as flares...
